A little bit about Katie
The human body is a miraculous, and beautiful thing. In some ways it can be extremely fragile, and in other ways it is as strong and functional as any machine. But we don’t treat our bodies as such. We spend most of our lives living in our heads and think that the noisy neighbor to the south of us (our body) as something we merely put up with… a nuisance that doesn’t behave or act in the manner our overly worked brains are wanting it to. It is no wonder that we have such a love hate relationship with our bodies because of this large disconnect. When we live our lives from the neck up neglecting or even hating our bodies we fail to have body awareness and understanding as to why it functions in the way that it does, whether positively or negatively.
My challenge to you is to enjoy your body! Use it every way you can! Don’t be afraid of it or what other people think of it. It is the greatest instrument you will ever have. Get out of your head and get into your body. Love your body and take care of it. Your body takes care of you in ways that you don’t even understand. It is constantly advocating for your entire well-being. We perceive pain and tightness in our body as a negative thing, something that has gone wrong and we have to deal with it. In reality our bodies give us pain to tell us when we have pushed too much or gone too far. Our muscles tighten in areas to protect weakness, to help support an injured area or an area that may become injured through repetitive stress. Perhaps once we change our perception of pain we will begin to understand our bodies and appreciate how truly miraculous we are.
MY BACKGROUND
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and now it is where I currently reside and work. I have been a student of Massage Therapy since 2009 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cortiva Institute with honors in 2010. I am licensed by the Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy. I own and operate Studio Todd Massage & Yoga; it includes Massage Therapy, Yoga, and holistic health. I am excited to be adding a few more wellness elements to my practice as well, like Thai Massage, Herbal poultice detox, FasciaBlasting, and massage Cupping Therapy. In the summer of 2014, I received my Registered Yoga Teacher 300-hour certification in which I will hold small class sizes and private sessions. My passion is to enrich the lives of those around me, so that they may also maintain balance and harmony in their lives. In my free time I balance work and play with AcroYoga, it is a partner based yoga that has the agility of acrobatics, the mindfulness of yoga, and the lovingkindness of thai massage. In addition to AcroYoga, I am entering into the world of flow arts, spinning fire with a contact staff and poi. These activities are large passion of mine that challenge my skill sets, increase my awareness, and is a wonderful therapeutic release.
My philosophy is really quite simple. I believe in putting my clients first and accommodating every individual need and taste. I have the education and experience to provide the highest level of massage service in a relaxing and comfortable environment.
Professionalism is another aspect of my philosophy. I care about my clients and strive to maintain a professional atmosphere. This includes continuing education to stay up on latest trends and modalities, respecting my client's schedules by performing services in a timely fashion, and maintaining proper hygiene in all aspects.
